About Wordy
I made this as a small prototype. It teaches you ten words that come up a lot at work, stuff like mitigate or bottleneck, and then makes you actually use them out loud.
For each word it tells you what it means and gives you an example. Then you say a sentence with it and it tells you if you got it right. Get it wrong and you get one more go. Miss it again and it comes back at the end.
You can just talk to it while you're going. Ask what a word means, ask for another example, say "next" to skip it, or say "practise" and a word to go back to one. If hands-free is on, the mic turns on by itself once it's done talking, so you don't have to click anything.
How it works
Your browser turns what you said into text and sends it to a small server function. That function asks a model on Groq whether you used the word right and what to say back, and your browser reads the reply out.
The model doesn't keep score though, the app does. So even if the model says something weird, it can't skip a word or mark one right by accident.
If the model is slow or down, it switches to a much dumber checker that runs in your browser, so the lesson doesn't just stop. The line at the top tells you which one is answering.
What it's bad at
Voice only works in Chrome and Edge, anywhere else you'll have to type. It uses whatever voice your browser has, so it sounds a bit different on every device. And if you reload the page your progress is gone.
